Re-Engaging Students
in a Trauma-Sensitive Classroom

This course explores effective restart and recovery efforts in response to today’s student realities, including the ongoing impact of immigration policies and the stressors they can create for students and families. As student needs continue to evolve, instructional innovation and trauma-informed approaches are essential for fostering engagement and supporting learning.

Throughout the course, educators will examine mindsets and strategies that promote engagement in a calm classroom. Topics include goal setting despite learning disruption, the role of cell phones in student engagement, and fostering meaningful classroom conversations.

The course also focuses on three critical components of lesson design—The First Five Minutes, The Body of the Lesson, and The Last Five Minutes—with practical, classroom-ready strategies embedded in each section.
